Social Network Support (2007-2010)
Grant makers, nonprofit organizations, and businesses have long used social networks to increase the effectiveness of their efforts. Social network mapping is a new technology for visualizing the formal and informal networks connecting individuals and organizations. Creating social network maps and sharing the information with the network’s members strengthens networks by providing information on the status, strength, and opportunities for improved interpersonal and interagency connections.
A grant from the David and Lucile Packard Foundation is making it possible for the Community Foundation to map and support four sub-groups: the adult literacy providers’ network, environmental service organizations, human service providers in Greenfield, and youth development in Monterey County. In addition to working with these networks and helping them understand their partnerships and potential, the Community Foundation will support network leaders and among their organizations in enhancing communication, planning, and cooperation.
