About the Fund
From its majestic coastlines to its soaring mountain ranges, Monterey County is one of the world’s most unique and beautiful places to live and visit. Our open space is the heart and soul of our communities.
The Let’s Go Outdoors Fund (or LGO Fund) supports safe, accessible parks and open space for recreation, enjoyment, and protection of natural and cultural resources, and native habitat and wildlife throughout our more than 20,000 acres of protected lands. Your contributions help underwrite essential projects like fire management and mitigation preparedness at Garland Ranch Regional Park and throughout the District’s regional parks, floodplain restoration along the Carmel River, educational, cultural, and historical programs, and more. We’re also working on an off-leash dog area and child play area at Palo Corona Regional Park.
With your donation to this fund, you’ll help support open space and parks operated by the Monterey Peninsula Regional Park District – and access to the wonder and beauty of Monterey’s open spaces for all.
Background
In the early 1970’s a grassroot effort created the Monterey Peninsula Regional Park District (MPRPD or the District). MPRPD was entrusted to acquire lands for the express purpose of preserving open space and providing recreational opportunities. Today, through the involvement of our neighbors, visitors, and friends we are realizing the District’s vision to have well-managed parks while protecting our environment, and enhancing our community’s health, recreational, and environmental education opportunities. These supporters aspired to create a place to donate to the District’s causes – the Let’s Go Outdoors Fund was established to give the whole community a place to help support, preserve, protect, and access parks and open space.
