Dennis & Janice Caprara Community Center

The Dennis & Janice Caprara Community Center Complex will be a great benefit for the entire community. The center will house a variety of programs and activities. It will offer a safe place for residents of all ages and provide the opportunity to interact with others, which can strengthen social connections. The center will enhance community engagement and continue the City’s intentional effort to create a safe and inclusive environment for residents.

The Dennis & Janice Caprara Community Center Complex will be constructed on a city-owned parcel just east of Fairview Middle School. The entire complex will comprise a community hall, teen innovation center, and County library. The County library will be relocated from the current rental space in the Gonzales Shopping Center. The Gonzales Community Center Capital Campaign Fund of the Community Foundation for Monterey County will support the construction of the new Center.

  1. Library, Teen Innovation Center, restrooms, office, courtyard, lounge area, parking lot improvements
  2. Community Hall, commercial kitchen, amphitheater, central plaza, fitness center
  3. Full build out of phase 2 and additional parking
  4. Separate stand alone gymnasium (future project)

Why Give

From its inception, the project to build a new community center for the City of Gonzales has been a combined effort of public servants and community volunteers. The Community Center will be a phenomenal center–a safe gathering place for recreation, learning, and community activities–and there is great excitement about the project. The City of Gonzales and the fundraising committee thank you for your consideration and hope we can count on you to support our fundraising campaign.

Campaign Goal – Join Us!

The estimated project budget for phase 1-3 of the complex is approximately $34.8 million.  The city has the funding to construct Phase 1 including $7.5 million from Measure X sales tax funds, $800,000 from Community Development Block Grants funds, $1.8 million from Monterey County and $5 million from Senator Anna Caballero/State of California.  The goal for the capital campaign is $10 million dollars.
