Overview
The Community Foundation for Monterey County (CFMC) is one of the oldest, largest grantmaking foundations on California’s Central Coast. With more than 300 individual funds created by generous community members in their lifetime or through their estates, the CFMC now holds more than $160 million in assets. Together with our philanthropic partners, we awarded $9 million in grants to nearly 400 local nonprofit organizations in 2012 in the areas of community and social services, arts and culture, health, education, the environment, animal welfare, historic preservation and more. The CFMC’s Center for Nonprofit Excellence offers workshops, peer learning opportunities, consulting and other resources focused on organizational development to further strengthen local nonprofits. In 2012 the CFMC celebrated a milestone of more than $100 million granted towards a vision of healthy, safe, vibrant communities.
