Heavy winter rains caused a major slip-out on Highway 1 on March 30, 2024 south of The Rocky Creek Bridge in Big Sur in Monterey County, CA. The damaged road connecting Big Sur to points north resulted in temporary closure, convoys and limited access for travelers and residents alike. On April 12 Cal Trans announced that twice daily convoys to move only local residents and essential workers through the area would continue until Memorial Day May 27, 2024. Slides south of Big Sur have already limited access from points south. The new closure will continue to cause tremendous hardship for Big Sur residents, employees and their families.
