If there are few appropriate descriptors of King City and South Monterey communities, they are GIVING and Neighbors Helping Neighbors. Our 3-year old Southern Monterey County Foundation, an affiliate of the Community Foundation for Monterey County has had the pleasure of doing just that each year and enjoying the process.
Back in 2013 CFMC President/CEO Dan Baldwin called together a large group of South Monterey County community members and proposed the affiliate. The following year in 2014 we founded the SMCF Advisory Board with engaged board members from King City and feeder cities.
“Satisfying” and “time well spent” says it all. We are able to review grant requests from area agencies we know well, volunteer at their organizations and attend events. So we are well aware of the amazing work created and completed by these organizations.
As a small community, we know the impact all agencies have supporting our local families.

The SMCF has had a distinguished group of founding members from area families and businesses from King City and points south. (See the full list)
These are not just names, but long-term residents who are invested in making our community better. The advisory board provides oversight, reviews grant priorities and raises funds. Ann Brown, past CFMC Board President says it well.

SMCF Advisory Board
The SMCF Advisory Board represents all entities of the communities including local schools, small businesses, education, farming, ranching, financial institutions and long-time residents. These volunteersare able to ask for support from friends and families and promote grant applications from local groups.
Making a Difference – More Than $50,000 in Grants
We recently granted $15,000 to 11 grantees and have granted more than $50,000 in the last 3 years.

to support the third annual 4th Grade History Jamboree, a two-day program full of art, history and music

to support the free 2017 Veteran’s Day concert at the Stanton Theater in King City
Rancho Cielo
to provide ongoing case management for South County residency in transitional housing
San Antonio Elementary School
for the purchase of iPads to implement STEM programs for K-8 students in the San Antonio Valley, Bryson-Hesperia and Fort Hunter Liggett area
