Friday: Restorative Justice practice

Restorative justice is not just a theory or a model — it is a culture.

STRONGHOLD co-directors, Karena H. Montag, MFT & Claire Whitmer, will explore how we can turn theory into practice, embodiment, and culture.

Together we will unpack the difference between restorative and punitive justice, examine the ways punitive justice shapes our lives, and imagine how applying a restorative justice stance can shift the culture of the systems and communities in which we live.

Our exploration will include particular attention to the role of power and privilege, and to the intersection between racial identity, harm and accountability.

We will center the wisdom of our own lived experiences and bodies in this day of experiential learning.

Saturday: Healing and Reconciliation as a conflict resolution model

Sometimes we find ourselves in present day challenges or conflicts, where the professional or life skills we have access to do don’t feel adequate in resolving the issue.

The healing and reconciliation framework provides attendees with a set of tools to address the deeper, historical context of the present day challenge or conflict, especially in culturally or ethnically diverse spaces. Attendees to our trainings are community leaders, students, members of non-profit organizations, executives and entrepreneurs, and board members. Attendees will receive a PDF workbook with handouts and exercises.

This workshop is highly interactive and will include multiple small group work, individual exercises, and role plays. In addition, attendees who so choose will have opportunities to practice facilitating certain exercises.
