CFMC Offers $1.4 Million in Scholarships
Many Monterey County students aspire to attend college, but the cost of higher education keeps them from achieving that dream.
The Community Foundation for Monterey County (CFMC) has been working with generous individual, family and business donors to help close the gap. The CFMC announced that more than $1.4 million in scholarship awards are available in 2023 for Monterey County students.

One Application – 65 Scholarship Opportunities
One application allows students to access up to 65 different scholarships they may qualify for. Students can apply through the CFMC’s online scholarship system: cfmco.org/ScholarshipApply. (Separate applications are available for additional scholarships).
The deadline to complete an application for the 2023/2024 academic year is Wednesday, March 15, 2023. Recipients will be announced at the end of April 2023. Students can also find scholarship resources at www.cfmco.org/scholarships.

CFMC scholarship funds are established by people who recognize the value of education and want to support students in achieving their potential. The Community Foundation for Monterey County manages more than 65 named scholarship funds. In 2022, the funds awarded $1.7 million to 431 students.
Individuals can create their own scholarships or support the College Futures Monterey County Scholarship program, where 95 percent of recipients are the first in their family to attend college.
This approach offers needs-based scholarships and student support services. Studies show that this can have a significant impact on increasing college-going and degree completion for low-income students. Students from 10 local high schools attend a series of workshops geared to educate them and their parents on the ins and outs of college – from applying, to financial aid, choosing a college, and financial literacy. These workshops help set students up for success.
Participating schools include: Alisal, Everett Alvarez, Gonzales, Greenfield, King City, North Monterey County, North Salinas, Salinas, Seaside and Soledad High School.
