WHAT ARE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE GRANTS?
The Community Foundation provides relatively small Technical Assistance Grants to non-profit agencies and neighborhood or community-based organizations to help fund efforts to build their organization’s internal capacity. Requests for up to $4,000 may be made once per calendar year. Private businesses or individuals are not eligible.

Organizations that receive a Technical Assistance Grant may also request a larger grant through the Community Foundation's General Endowment Grants or any other Community Foundation grants program in the same year.

Normally, however, agencies do not receive Technical Assistance Grants for workshops that the Community Foundation provides through its Management Assistance Program.

SCOPE AND TYPES OF GRANTS
Technical Assistance Grants are intended to help an agency make significant progress in addressing special, non-recurring management issues within the agency. Such issues may include:

• Medium and long range planning
• Restructuring, merging, or agency expansion
• Marketing and public relations
• Fundraising, including planning for special campaigns
• Improving information management and systems
• Specialized, one-time training for development, executive or program staff

• Sponsorship of trainng or other activities that will benefit a broad field of non - profit agencies

The Community Foundation funds technical assistance needs in partnership with the organization requesting the grant. In general, a Technical Assistance Grant would cover no to more than 50% of the cost incurred by the agency.

Although the Community Foundation cannot recommend individual consultants, staff will assist agencies in identifying potential consultants and special training resources. The Community Foundation encourages agency board members and staff to participate in low cost courses or conferences, such as those offered locally through the Non-profit Alliance of Monterey County (NAMC), the Development Executives Network (DEN), the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), CompassPoint in San Jose, the California Association of Nonprofits (CAN) and other providers in the San Francisco Bay Area. Click here for more information for these and other organizations.

Technical Assistance Grant requests may be submitted at any time. A preliminary phone call to the Technical Assistance Program Officer (831) 375-9712 is encouraged.  Submit a completed Technical Assistance Grant Application to grants@cfmco.org. Most proposals can be reviewed within 6-8 weeks after receipt of the grant request. If a Technical Assistance grant is awarded, a completed Technical Assistance Grant Evaluation Form is due at least three months after the activities have been completed, but no more than one year after the grant date unless the Foundation has agreed to a different deadline. The Foundation will not consider other Technical Assistance grant requests until outstanding Technical Assistance grant evaluations are completed.
