MISSION AND HISTORY OF THE

MANAGEMENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (MAP)

The mission of the Management Assistance Program (MAP) is to improve and expand access to organizational capacity-building resources for non-profit organizations in Monterey County.

MAP began in 1996 after an extensive needs assessment involving non-profit staff, Board members, volunteers, and professionals in nonprofit organizational development in the region. It was initially supported by a five-year grant from the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, and was integrated into the core programs of the Community Foundation for Monterey County in 2002.

Senior Program Officer Jeff Bryant leads a workshop on Community Involvement in Program Design.

MONTEREY CULTURAL PLANNING PROCESS

NONPROFIT RESOURCE LIBRARY

Development Assistant Kathryn Hart assists with Foundation Directory Online.

Our Resource Library includes over 1000 books, workbooks, videos and other materials.  Topics include board development, organizational assessment, fundraising, financial management, human resources and many other topics to help organizations strengthen their management practices. Materials are available for on-site use. Smaller collections are also available at the Salinas and Seaside public libraries.

The Community Foundation Nonprofit Resource Library is a Cooperating Collection of the

Foundation Center.  As such, we provide a core collection of Foundation Center publications and a variety of supplementary materials and services in areas useful to grantseekers. These materials include the Foundation Center's directory of funders online.. Classes on how to use this directory are scheduled periodically.  A personal computer is available on-site to use this tool and to conduct internet searches. The Library also features the Grantmaker's Survey, a booklet produced by the Community Foundation for Monterey County with brief descriptions of local private funders. A VCR is available to review videos.
