Katherine Coopman, Grants & Data Manager
After graduation from Mills College with a BA in English, Kathy worked as an internal auditor of computer operations for Pacific Bell in San Francisco (now SBC), and then joined the systems analysis team to design and later implement a new company-wide accounting system, calculating and classifying payroll for 110,000 employees in two states.
A growing family led to a career change – beef cattle ranching near the Pinnacles in San Benito County, where Kathy was a member of the Jefferson School Board and Vice President of the San Benito County Cattlewomen. She eventually moved to Monterey and operated a small trust management and bookkeeping business until her children were in college. Spare time was spent in volunteer work for local nonprofits (including serving as Currents editor for the Community Hospital Auxiliary).
Kathy joined the Community Foundation in 2003, working in Finance and gradually transitioning to the Grants and Programs area. She serves on the Board of a local private foundation and as Treasurer for Sea Scribes, the Monterey Bay area calligraphy guild.
