Richard J. Borda - Retired Executive, Wells Fargo Bank

Richard Borda was born in San Francisco and grew up in San Jose, California. He graduated from Stanford University in 1953 and was commissioned an officer in the United States Marine Corps. He completed active duty service, entered Stanford’s Graduate School of Business and upon graduation in 1957, joined Wells Fargo Bank (then the American Trust Company) and commenced a career in commercial banking.

In 1970 he received a presidential appointment as assistant secretary of the Air Force and remained in that position until 1973 and then returned to the bank. Richard had numerous and varied management assignments including retail banking, trust and investments, public and governmental affairs and international banking. He retired as an Executive Vice President in 1985.

In 1985 Richard moved to Vermont as Vice Chairman and Chief Financial Officer of National Life Insurance Company. In that capacity he also served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Sentinel Group Funds, Inc., a mutual funds company. He retired from the Sentinel board in 2004.

Richard Borda retired in 1990 and moved to Carmel. Since then he has remained active in for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. Currently he serves on the Board of Directors of infoUSA, Director Emeritus of National Life Insurance Company, and has previously served as President of the Air Force Aid Society, Washington, D.C., Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Monterey Institute of International Studies, Board of Directors of the Boys & Girls Club of Monterey.
