Byrl Anderson Smith
Byrl Smith has excelled as a leader and a passionate facilitator for women across Monterey County through her efforts with non-profit community commitments involved in civil, health/human services, and political advocacy. She is also well known as the loving wife of Supervisor Jerry Smith. They were happily married 40 years. Mr. Smith served as Mayor of Seaside and ultimately was elected as Monterey County’s Fourth District Supervisor. During this time, Byrl shined as a role model for women everywhere, giving her whole-hearted support to her husband while willingly reaching out a helping hand to others and treating everyone with respect with graciousness.
Byrl began her career as a retail manager at Casual Corner. She moved on to the banking industry where she worked in new accounts at Valley National Bank and Monterey County Bank. She also worked at Saks Fifth Avenue, Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula, and Dr. Hattori’s office before becoming a stay-at-home wife. Byrl has served the United Way and led their nomination, as Treasurer for the Volunteer Center for Monterey County, on the C.A.S.A Advisory board, and is a past member of the Monterey Museum of Art.
Byrl currently volunteers for the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula Auxiliary. Her countless volunteer hours have inspired many others to give back to their communities in as many ways as possible just as Byrl has. Her hobbies are reading, walking, and Ikebana-the art of arranging flowers.
