Fund for the Environment Field Trip

In 1992, the Community Foundation’s Board of Directors established the Fund for the Environment as a permanently endowed field of interest fund for environmental education.
Since then, national research has shown that environmental education is most effective when it directly involves people in improving or conserving environmental quality. In 2004, the Board changed the Fund’s priorities to programs that achieve improvements in environmental quality, and involve people directly in conservation activities.

The Fund for the Environment has provided much needed financial assistance to over
twenty local environmental agencies. Supporters of the fund still agree that it is critical that the public, key community members and elected officials are aware of the vital need for strategic environmental preservation, and that education is fundamental to that effort.

All donors to the Fund for the Environment are invited to an annual event featuring one or more environmental agencies or grantees. These yearly field trips demonstrate the great work that the grantees of the Fund are doing to preserve and protect the Central Coast environment for future generations.

The following are a few of the environmental agencies that have received grants from the Fund for the Environment:

  • Big Sur Land Trust
  • O’Neill Sea Odyssey
  • Friends Of Moss Landing Marine Laboratories
  • Hastings Natural History Reservation
  • Monterey Bay Sanctuary Foundation
  • Monterey County Agricultural & Rural Life Museum
  • The Nature Conservancy
  • California State Parks Foundation
  • The Otter Project Inc.
  • Rising Leaf Watershed Arts
  • Save Our Shores
  • Ventana Wildlife Society
