The Lori and Lou Flagg Memorial Youth Fund

"My family and the Community Foundation set up the Lori and Lou Flagg Memorial Youth Fund to remember our beloved daughters and to do some creative things for teachers and students in the middle schools. The Teaching Awards and the college scholarships for 8th graders have been inspiring for all of us."- Morgan Flagg

The Lori and Lou Flagg Memorial Youth Fund was established in 1987 with a gift from the Morgan Flagg Family Foundation in memory of Lori Ruth Flagg and Kerri Louise Flagg, who died in 1976 as a result of an automobile accident while they were students in high school. The Fund is dedicated to motivating students to complete high school and enroll in higher education.

As a supporting organization of the Community Foundation for Monterey County, this permanent fund is a separate division of the Foundation. The Fund has continued to grow through the generosity of donors and the prudent investments of the Community Foundation. The Fund’s Board of Directors creates programs benefiting youth in Monterey County.

Since 1991, the Fund, the Community Foundation, the Monterey County Office of Education, and public school districts have awarded scholarships to outstanding graduates of each year’s eighth grade classes in public schools throughout Monterey County. To receive their $1,000 scholarships, winners must complete high school and enroll in the vocational school or college of their choice.
