A Model of an Engaged Donor

Women's Fund of Monterey County

Konny Murray and Tobi MarcusKonny Murray is an activist in Women's Rights and Animal Welfare and is especially passionate about women having the same opportunity for success as anyone else. That's why she supports the Women's Fund in its efforts to provide women with seed money for business and to offer health initiatives that help women make informed health decisions for their families and themselves. She spoke with Tobi Marcus, Director of Resource Development and former Women's Fund Director.

Tobi: Konny, the Women’s Fund has appreciated your support over the years. I know that you came to our first major event, the Breakfast at the Plaza, in 2006 and your involvement has grown every year since then. What inspired you to become more involved?

Konny: As you know, I enjoy being an active donor – one who gives both my time and money to organizations I believe in. I have enjoyed watching the Women’s Fund grow in size and scope of its efforts. It’s been a pleasure to participate but this year I was interested in a more involved role. I am particularly interested in supporting your work on girls' health, as that is a passion of mine.

Tobi: How did you decide to host an event at your home?

Konny: I knew that the Women’s Fund was trying to bridge a funding gap between a major grant and the total cost of the project. Because of my volunteer activities in the community, I know a wide cross-section of people. I thought that if I could introduce some of my friends and colleagues to your work, I could help the Women’s Fund raise some of the much needed funds.

Tobi: I think the event was a great success in terms of new relationships formed and financial contributions made. How did you feel about it?

Konny: I enjoyed having the chance to connect people I care about to causes I am passionate about. It was very meaningful to me on a personal level, and I hope it helped the Women’s Fund achieve its goals.

Tobi: It did. Thank you! We raised vital funds and we found some champions who will help us take our project to the community.
