Scholarships

Bliss Scholarship Grantee

 
The Community Foundation for Monterey County holds several scholarship endowments. Scholarship committees, one for each scholarship at each participating school, administer the application process. The number of scholarships, and the amount of each, vary depending on the size of each endowment.



The Bissell Fund – Seaside High School

Four year college; a student who might not attend college without this motivation and is not receiving other scholarships.

James Bliss & Annette Sward Forestry & Nursing Scholarship – Pacific Grove High School, Monterey Peninsula College, Monterey Peninsula College Fire Academy
Monterey, San Benito or Santa Cruz county students in Fire Science, Paramedics/EMT, or Forestry, at an accredited institution in California, studying for AA or better; half-time or better.

Carmel High School Class of 1952 – Carmel High School
Deserving, accepted at college, contributes talents to school and community. Preference given to those with over ten years in the Carmel Unified School District.

Bill Clapper Memorial Music Scholarship – Monterey High School
Pursuing higher education in music; member of band, jazz band or orchestra for two or more years including the senior year; GPA 3.0 or better over all four years; demonstrates exceptional talent on woodwind, brass, string or percussion instrument; recommended by HS band director. First quarter college grades must be C or better.

David L. Ferguson Scholarship Fund – Monterey High School
Academic achievement.

Geraldyn R. Griffith Memorial Scholarship – Oglala Lakota College
Native American, academic and extracurricular achievements, now attending or bound for any form of post-secondary education.

Ed Kennedy Journalism Scholarship Fund – Monterey Peninsula Sunrise Rotary Club
Commitment to a degree in journalism, full time (eleven or more units), studying or interning in journalism or graphic communications.

Kier Memorial Scholarship Fund – Pacific Grove High School
Graduating senior, financial need, good grades; pursuing a career in education or the arts; two or four-year school.

The Jim Martin Scholarship Fund – Woodside Priory School
Criteria set by school.

Robert Hattori Nakamura Memorial Scholarship – Carmel High School
One boy and one girl, sustained record of excellent sportsmanship, outstanding team spirit in athletics, concern for the success of their teammates as student-athletes.

Kristopher Pallastrini Fund – Carmel High School
One boy and one girl, to college or vocational school; academic and extracurricular achievements; ability to overcome difficulties and challenges.

San Ardo Foundation for Education – King City High School
For college or post-secondary vocational education of graduates of San Ardo (K-8) School.

The Harles R. Sarment College Endowment – All Monterey Peninsula Public High Schools
Monterey County resident, US citizen, admitted to fulltime status at a four-year college in California, attending in the first academic year following graduation; financial need such that the student would not otherwise be able to attend such a college.

Charles Joseph Watts Scholarship Fund – King City High School

For any accredited institution of higher education, academic or vocational ability, essay, three recommendations, eligible to enroll full-time.

Shelley Watts Scholarship Fund – King City High School
For any accredited institution of higher education, academic or vocational ability, essay, three recommendations, eligible to enroll full-time.

Horace H. Wilson Scholarship Fund – Salinas High School
Farmworker family; four-year college or university.

Eligibility: Requirements vary by fund as shown above, but all recipients must demonstrate financial need, must meet the criteria for their award, and must claim their award within the time specified.

Application: Each awarding institution administers the application process. When a winner is chosen by the scholarship committee, the school notifies the Community Foundation for Monterey County, which verifies that the requirements have been met and sets aside the award money for that student.

Funding: When the student provides proof of enrollment to the Community Foundation for Monterey County, the award money is paid to the school, to be applied for the student’s benefit.
