Giving Options

Some donors are interested in setting up funds or donating to the Community Foundation's exsisting funds right away, while others are interested in including us in their estate planning.
There are various options of giving, including Outright (or lifetime) Gifts and the most common forms of Planned Gifts. Especially in the case of Charitable Remainder Gifts, we strongly recommend the use of professional counsel in structuring, drafting, and reviewing all the tax implications for such charitable giving plans.

Still others, who are more familiar with our work and/or wish to benefit all residents of Monterey County in the broadest possible way, and become a Friend of the Foundation by making an unrestricted gift to the Community Foundation Operating Fund. Unrestricted gifts allow our Board of Directors to have discretion about how best to use the gift.  For our Neighborhood Grants Program, for example, or to help us strengthen capacity in the nonprofit community through our Management Assistance Program. We are always grateful to gifts to our Operating Fund, because it allows us to continue to grow and expand the way we serve our donors and the community.

Finally, many people become donors by leaving part of their estate to the Community Foundation through a bequest that the donor planned with the help of their professional advisor. We appreciate being informed of such planned gifts, and we honor such donors by including them in all listings of our Legacy Society.

If you are considering the creation of a private foundation, we strongly encourage you to explore the advantages a community foundation can offer. Please view Compare Private Foundation with Donor Advised Funds.

Information about our Investment and payout policies and our fee sturcture can be found in the Donor Resources section.
