The Women’s Fund inspires and engages donors to making lasting change for women and girls.

We provide grants and partner with community organizations and leaders on issues where we can have the greatest impact. By leveraging these investments, the Women’s Fund is helping to bring about meaningful change for our community as a whole.

Since 2003 the Women’s Fund has made grants and initiated programs that focus on economic empowerment and health of women and girls in Monterey County.

Grantmaking Priorities

The Women’s Fund commissioned a research report, The Lives of Women & Girls in Monterey County which set the groundwork for the fund’s two interconnected grantmaking goals: investing in the future of girls and advancing economic security for women.

$1.5 million endowment goal reached
2014 Announced Women’s Economic Security Initiative
2013 Second year of $75,000 in Women’s Economic Opportunity grants to help women become economically self-sufficient
2012 Launched six-agency Girls’ Health in Girls’ Hands collaborative
2011 Sponsored the Lives of Women & Girls in Monterey County Status Report
2011 Began Women’s Fund Endowment Campaign
2010 Granted record $85,000 for Girls’ Health and Women’s Economic Empowerment
2009 Completed the planning phase and presented findings of Girls’ Health in Girls’ Hands Made the first micro-loan to Kathleen Green, Stone Green Studios
2008 Established the WBELP loan fund at 1st Capital Bank
Launched the Girls’ Health in Girls’ Hands Action Research Project
2007 Partnered with El Pajaro CDC to develop the first education and micro-loan program for women in the county, the Women’s Business and Education Loan Program (WBELP)
2004 Funded First Glance, the first separate research report on women and girls in Monterey County
