Many donors choose to establish a Donor Advised Fund because of the flexibility it gives them. While many commercial financial institutions now offer Donor Advised Funds, only the Community Foundation is doing the work of sustaining and improving the quality of life in the local community. A Donor Advised Fund with the Community Foundation helps support the Community Foundation while still allowing donors to give to their favorite charities both here and outside of Monterey County.
Others, particularly those with larger amounts to give, may want to explore all the options contained in The Giving Guide by themselves or with their professional advisor.
Some, especially those with smaller amounts to give, may wish to donate to an existing Fund at the Community Foundation - such as a Restricted Purpose Fund that benefits a favorite non-profit organization, or a Field of Interest Fund that serves a particular broad area of interest rather than a single non-profit.
Still others, who are more familiar with our work and/or wish to benefit all residents of Monterey County in the broadest possible way, will want to make an unrestricted gift to the Community Foundation. Unrestricted gifts allow our Board of Directors to have discretion about how best to use the gift for our Neighborhood Grants program, for example, or to help us strengthen capacity in the non-profit community through our Management Assistance Program. We are always grateful to gifts to our Operating Fund, because it allows us to continue to grow and expand the way we serve our donors and the community.
Finally, many people become donors by leaving part of their estate to the Community Foundation through a bequest that the donor planned with the help of their professional advisor. We appreciate being informed of such planned gifts, and we honor such donors by including them in all listings of our Legacy Society.
