Workshop Overview

Learn the essentials you’ll need to prepare clear and compelling grant proposals geared to foundations. Understand what should be in place before you write as well as how to present your nonprofit’s best case for funder support.

Participants will have an overview of and experience using tools that will enable them to:

  • have a clear understanding of the common elements of a grant proposal, with reference to application processes now in use in Monterey County;
  • be ready to write key parts of a grant proposal; and
  • be prepared to package a grant to meet funders’ guidelines and priorities.


Alicia Hernandez SanchezAlicia Hernández Sánchez is faculty for the Grant Writing course in the College of Health Human Services and Public Policy, Collaborative Health and Human Services for CSUMB. She brings over 17 years of grant writing experience (and millions of dollars raised) working with legal aid, disability and community organizing nonprofits.


Susan OsorioDr. Susan Osorio is a career educator for California community colleges and currently teaches grant proposal writing at CSUMB. She has written grants for workforce development and innovative programs as well as grants to foundations while an Executive Director of a local nonprofit. She currently supports a number of small nonprofits through the grant writing process.


Note: The organization you represent may qualify for a scholarship.
ACTION Council scholarships are offered to organizations supporting children & families who are at-risk, marginalized, or low-income.

Cancellation Policy:
Notice of cancellation must be received in writing (email or fax) by the Community Foundation at least two full working days prior to the workshop. Scholarship organizations must attend all parts of a multi-session series or they will be invoiced. In the case of a scholarship recipient no-show, the individual may be invoiced if written cancellation is not received within two working days.
